October 20, 2017 - Our IPIEC GLOBAL 2017 contest journey took us to our next international contest chapter - Germany. In the premises of a historical venue of Kaisersaal Palmhof-Silbersaal that combines the old traditional and modern styles, 15 German tech teams took part in the furious competition for places in the semifinal of IPIEC GLOBAL in Guangzhou that will be taking place in early December 2017.

The event attracted more than sixty guests, representing Germany’s most prominent technology, higher education and innovation institutions. Our distinguished guests included Mr. Dirk Griesinger, Simplioffice CEO; Ms. Fabienne Frauendorfer, Project Manager at Bertelsmann Stiftung; Mr. Johannes Melzer, Referent at ACATECH; Ms. Kristin Shi-Kupfer, Director of the Research Area on Public Policy and Society at Mercator Institute for China Studies; Mr. Jens Brehmer, Federal Association for Economic Development and Foreign Trade; Ms. Lingyun Dai, Director of Zhejiang University Berlin Office.

The event kicked off with opening speeches given by the organizers of the event, Mr. Edmont Rao representing the Organizing Committee of IPIEC GLOBAL and Mr. Wang Wenhai, CEO of the Rexi German Chinese Business Services GmbH. The stage was then set for pitches from the 15 shortlisted startups, giving each project holder 5 minutes to present their ideas, followed by a 5-minute Q&A session conducted by the judges. Each tech project was then carefully evaluated by the panel of judges comprising of Mr. Edmont Rao, Vice President of WTOIP; Ms. Xiaoya Wolf, IDG Group Venture Partner of Neander Trade & Consulting GmbH; Mr. Hansgeorg Lohl, Corporate Finance Consultant; Mr. Henry van Wagenberg, CEO of RateMyStudyAbroad and CEO of Smartlogic; Mr. Nicky Schuchardt, CEO of Netzwerk GbR and Mr. Wang Yi, Professor of Zhejiang University.

Quality of ideas presented in the contest was so high that the panel judges responded positively by selecting 5 instead of 3 innovators to advance to the semifinal in Guangzhou. The winning projects in order are Sicoya, CFRP Cable Project, Graphene Ink, PTX Tech and Cellcore. Apart from winning an entry into the semifinal in Guangzhou, all our German semifinalists will receive a complimentary China Business Service Starter Pack worth USD$2,000.
